Robnett's
History
|
| The building at 400 SW Second was built with
local bricks for J.C. Avery in the late 1850's. The business then operated
as a general mercantile. In 1893, R.M. Wade and company (1st
Generation) leased the building for their chain of hardware/implement
stores.
|
 |
| William Currin (2nd Generation),
R.M. Wade's nephew, was hired as manager. In 1911, William took sole
possession of the store and it then became known as Currin Agricultural
Implements. In 1917, the firm became known as Currin and Spurlin Hardware
after William invited his nephew Floyd Spurlin (3rd Generation) to join
him in business. After Currin passed away, Floyd went into
partnership with Arthur Lilly (no relation) in 1924. |
 |
Arthur sold back his share in 1937 and Floyd
became partners with his daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Charles
Robnett (4th Generation) and the Newmans. The name was then changed
to Spurlin and Robnett. Virginia and Charles
became the sole proprietors in 1955. |
|
In 1961 the name changed to Robnett's Hardware when Charles
passed away and Virginia took in, as partners, her daughter Donna Lewis and
her son Jerry Robnett (5th Generation). After Donna and her husband
sold their share in 1978, the business became known as Robnett's Hardware,
Inc. The business is currently owned by Jerry and his wife Julia.
Their daughter, Tori (6th generation) and her husband Scott Lockwood, now
manage the store and are raising Nicholas (7th generation) in the business.
